The year is 2012, the month of December. You live in a big city in America, and your government is collapsing. Things have been going south for a while, but you never thought it would be like this. You have no idea what will happen, but you hope it doesn't affect your life too much. You have a job, you have a house, and you have a car. They may not be the best, but they were more than some had.
As you watch the news, a startling report comes on. Demigods, the living children of the Greek gods, are real. You thought them the things of myth, but they live in the world around you. And with their existence comes the existence of other things of myths. You begin to question what you think is truth and what you think is myth. The solid black and white lines of the world are blurring into grey. Nothing is as it should be.
Now you are relieved. The remains of the government has pulled together to prevent the demigods from being a threat before it is even certain they are one. They are being sent to reservations, where they will be monitored and kept under control. But you wonder if they would really have been a threat. That doesn't matter though, you are safe, whether they were a threat or not.
More news on the demigods came in today. The government is pulling together, finally fixing their mistakes, and their first act is to keep the people safe. They fear that putting the demigods in one spot could be unsafe. They could revolt easier, and no one really knows what kind of powers they have. So the government has created a way to show their power and keep them in line. You don't really understand what The Maze Trials really are, but you feel safer already knowing that these people are being kept in line.

It is now 2079, and The Maze Trials are an everyday part of life. You breath them, live them, dream them. They are no different than the ads you see on TV. They are normal, yet horrible. The normal humans who are not affected by them see them as entertainment and safety. The demigods see them as cruelty and an injustice. But the demigods cannot fight it, for fear of a far worse system being implemented.
Every year, a boy and a girl from each reservation, aged anywhere from 12 to 18, is chosen as the tribute for their reservation. They are brought to the capitol and given a week's training, along with going through pretrials interviews, parades, and judging. They are then brought to that year's maze, packed with all the latest tricks and traps, and dropped into a random location. Only so many kids will make it out alive. It is a race to the death, a desperate bid for life. 24 go in. Only 10 come back out. Do you have what it takes to survive the maze?
